The Jue Ming (绝命) sector in 8 mansions feng shui has a name that literally means death or inevitable end of life.
But learners should note that this is a label that shouldn’t be taken literally at it’s words. Just like how the 6 Gods of bazi does not mean deities and heavenly beings.
The term Jue Ming (JM), or life threatening energy, is used in this context mainly to describe the gravest of bad luck that can be brought upon a household should the energy residing in it’s sector be afflicted.
In generally, this inauspicious energy is associated to accidents, illnesses, pain, misfortune, wealth loss, and in extreme cases, even death.

If the Tian Yi sector is associated with good health, then Jue Ming is the opposite and associated with bad health.
It has a strong energy base and is only slightly weaker than the cosmic strength of 5 Ghosts.
The sector is of metal element and associated with the broken soldier star (破军星).
The following table shows where the JM sector is located in a house depending on the type of house.
| Sitting | Gua | JM | Trigram |
| N | 1 | SW | Kan |
| SW | 2 | N | Kun |
| E | 3 | W | Zhen |
| SE | 4 | NE | Xun |
| NW | 6 | S | Qian |
| W | 7 | E | Dui |
| NE | 8 | SE | Gen |
| S | 9 | NW | Li |
The JM sector can also be identified by changing the polarity of the second yao line of the house trigram from yin-to-yang or yang-to-yin.
This essentially means that a broken line would be replaced by a solid line, or the other way around.
For example, a Gen house would have the trigram ☶. If we change the second yao line from broken to solid, we obtain the Xun trigram ☴. Since the spiritual home of this trigram is the southeast in Luo Shu, the JM sector would be in this directional sector this house.
Because of the catastrophe that JM can cause a household, it is ideal for this energy source to locked in a storeroom. And never at the front door.
Unlike other unfavorable sectors in 8 mansions such as the 6 killings, there are no borderline positive effects that come with JM.
The best living area for it to reside is the kitchen as the kitchen would be able to flip it from a negative area to one with positive energy.
However in modern feng shui practice, all is not lost when the JM directional sector is at a living space such as the dining room. This is because favorable stars in flying stars feng shui can cushion the negative effects or neutralize it.
For example, a timely mountain star can negate the negative effects of JM.
Some homeowners also use this source of energy in a useful way to aide them in kicking bad old habits.
But if an undesirable mountain star resides in the JM sector, then the homeowner must absolutely put remedies in place to reduce the bad luck that can befall the household.
The science behind 8 mansions is to use Tian yi energy to resolve the negative effects of JM. However in modern feng shui, there are various other practical methods to do so as well.
