The Wu Gui (五鬼) sector in 8 mansions is an energy source that draws in people who removes value from your life.
These can include adversaries, nemesis, those who mean you harm, petty people, and basically anybody who adds unnecessary stress and annoyance into your life.
It might be alright if they are simply around and don’t add any value to life. But it’s those who not just don’t add value, and instead take away value that the wu gui sector is associated with.
If you’ve had the experience of being forced to spend time with people you absolutely loathe (maybe due to work or social reasons), you’d know what is being referred to here.
In worst cases, these third parties can cause grave financial losses and even death.
In English, Wu Gui (WG) is intuitively named 5 Ghosts (5G).
Learners who are new to feng shui might immediately associate this with the realm of spirits and gods. Thus, linking 8 mansions to religion. But this label is just a term used to describe this energy source.
There is also an infamous singular feng shui concept called Wu Gui Yun Cai (五鬼运财), or 5 ghost carrying wealth, that can understandably seem to have a connection with this aspect of 8 mansions.
However, they are are different and are not linked in any way.
This just shows that the term “Wu Gui” has been around for a long time in Chinese metaphysics and has garnered widespread acceptance.
Some practitioners insist that building wealth areas in 5 Ghost sectors of a house would invoke 5 Ghosts Carrying Wealth (5GCW). This can be a smart form of custom feng shui, but has no linkage to the 5GCW concept.
The Wu Gui direction and sector is associated with the fire element, and shares an affinity with the chastity star (廉贞星).
The following table indicates the location of Wu Gui dependent on the type of house and Gua number.
| Sitting | Gua | 5G | Trigram |
| N | 1 | NE | Kan |
| SW | 2 | SE | Kun |
| E | 3 | NW | Zhen |
| SE | 4 | SW | Xun |
| NW | 6 | E | Qian |
| W | 7 | S | Dui |
| NE | 8 | N | Gen |
| S | 9 | W | Li |
There is actually a simple equation that leads to the table above that list down all the 5G locations being generated.
When the second and third yao line of the trigram which represents the house is changed, it points to the 5G location.
For example, a Xun house would be represented by the trigram ☴. When the second (middle) and third (top) yao lines are converted to their opposing polarity, we get the Kun trigram ☷ which rest at the southwest. This direction is where the 5G sector would be for this house.
When one is afflicted by the 5 Ghosts sector, it can bring about disputes, conflicts, backstabbers, being victimized by jealous gossip and rumors, etc.
Despite it’s name and what wu gui is most known for, it is also a source of energy that is strongly linked to spirituality and the spiritual world.
So when the stars are favorable and the forms are suitable, people influenced by this sector can find that they possess “special” abilities. Or that they find themselves more in-tuned and connected to their religious gods.
This makes the WG sector suitable for meditation rooms and altars… if you know what you are doing.
Something to note is that if a WG sector falls on an intercardinal sector of northeast, northwest, southeast or southwest, and a front or back door is located there, there is a possibility of inviting spiritual entities into the premises. Even though it would take a huge cumulative meeting of unique factors for this to trigger, the possibility is there.
The forms present in the location would play a huge role too.
Saying that, this is not necessarily bad. Some people apply such techniques to practice astral projections to seek a higher power and awareness.
For example, someone with the Gua number 9 might face his 5G direction of west when praying or conducting some type of religious rituals.
When a homeowner successfully flips the 5G sector from bad to good, fame can be achieved.
Among the 4 unfavorable sectors in 8 mansions feng shui, Wu Gui is the strongest.
For this reason, it is usually the most desired location for the kitchen as the kitchen is a special place in Ba Zhai which is capable of flipping a negative sector into a positive one.
However, some feng shui practitioners would advise against this as the kitchen would have fire energy which supports the base energy of 5G.
Otherwise, plan this sector for non-living areas if that is within your control. And never place your main door in this area unless you are constructing a place of worship.
An ancient method to manage negative forces from an afflicted 5G sector is to strengthen the presence of shengqi energy within the affected area itself.
