The Fu Wei (伏位) sector is generally understood as one of the4 favorable sectors and directions in the application of 8 mansions feng shui.
However if we go into the specifics, it’s also known to be the weakest in strength among the auspicious quartet.
Saying that, this does not mean that it’s weak. It just mean that among the 4 good directions and sectors of Sheng Qi, Tian Yi, Yan Nian and Fu Wei (FW), fuwei has the lowest strength.
It’s like 4 Olympic participants in weight lifting. Even though all of them can life that like you never even imagine, there is still going to be someone who finishes fourth.
The fu wei sector is also sometimes known as the identity palace in some circles. This is because when a person is able to determine his or her Gua number, the sector (or palace) of that number according to Luo Shu will be the fu wei sector and direction.
Fu wei is the only sector among the 8 sectors that has this attribute that is consistent among all 8 types of houses.
To put it simply, once you know your Gua, you will know your FW sector. Which is why it’s sometimes termed as the identity sector.

The life aspects that FW is associated with are stability, improvement and general smooth sailing with peace of mind.
While FW directional sector is the most overlooked area of a house when a homeowner is planning for feng shui, it can be the most favorable area of a home for someone who is involved in a career that finds stability and predictability highly favorable.
Some of these types of jobs include those associated to governance, civil service, military, family businesses that prioritize stability instead of taking risks, etc.
If you are at a stage in life where you are perfectly contented with where you are, then the FW sector should be one that you pay more attention to.
In some sense, it wouldn’t be wrong to state that FW is a lesser version of Sheng Qi. And will be an able alternative for living areas when the SQ sector is already used, or cannot be used.
For example, maybe the SQ area is already occupied by the by the home office. So a living room cannot be located in the SQ sector. The fu wei sector can be used instead for the planning of the living room location.
Saying that, because the FW area is the sitting of a house by default, it can harness great energy when there is a mountain at the back. And having water here can have adverse effects on residents when there is an affliction.
In terms of personal 8 mansions, it will also be a good location for the front door.
If there’s one favorable sector that has to be sacrificed to a storeroom, the FW is the one that is most often used.
